- The Southern Ethiopia People’s Democratic Movement (SEPDM)
- The Tigray People's Libration Front ( TPLF )
Established - 1987
- The Popular armed struggle led by EPRDF removed the totalitarian government of the Workers Party of Ethiopia (WPE) in may 1991.
- EPRDF has won the majority seats of the Peoples Representative Council of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Government in the past three national elections. (1995 , 2000 & 2005)

Any democracy needs a well-functioning and authoritative state with well organized party with a qualification as an ORG...like EPRDF in Ethiopia. But when a country is emerging from decades of dictatorship, it also needs to find ways to check, monitor, and restrain the power of political leaders and state officials. The first and most basic role of civil society is to limit and control the power of the state through peaceful means.. EPRDF has developed the economic and political changes over the last sixteen years both in Ethiopia as well as globally.
